Social Distancing Diaries: Day 22

Dear Diary

Today’s theme was Mask Production. Thank you to everyone who has asked for masks. It means a lot to me to be able to make them for you. I’m trying to get them done as quickly as possible because I know you need them. As soon as they are done I will let you know.

I also ventured to Walmart today for an online pick up. Some items that I typically buy on Amazon just aren’t available. But Walmart had them. And, since the kids were starting to panic that we wouldn’t have Easter candy, I added that to my online order. It was strange to drive down the highway for the first time in over 3 weeks. There were very few cars out, particularly for a Saturday afternoon. I made a quick dash into the store to pick up my order which was waiting for me. I wore my mask and I’d estimate that about 50% of the other customers were wearing masks. On Wednesday when I went to Weis, I was the only customer I saw who was wearing a mask.

Today was a day of blessing too. If you need a break from cooking, order some meal packs from Acorn Farms Catering. We got one today and it was great to just reheat the food and not have to cook it. And I had my first Chicken Bowl!

We capped off the night with a family viewing of the new Little Women movie (well, 2 of us bailed early on and 1 took a phonecall). Hayley and I had seen this in the theater and loved it. It was great the second time too. It doesn’t matter which version of this story I watch, it brings me to tears. I guess it just hits too close to home for me!

I guess the Post-Cap to the night was a viewing of American Experience’s documentary about Polio and the race to develop a vaccine. It’s a favorite of mine. I have a fascination with the 1950s. I look forward to the day when I sit down in the evening to watch a documentary about the race to find a vaccine against COVID-19.

This is only half the food—there is enough for at least 4 meals for our family. What a relief to not have to cook for a few days!
